Where to stay in Grožnjan – Casa Ars Natura

A perfect autumn getaway in one of the most beautiful regions in Croatia. Yep, I’m talking about Istria and a maybe, just maybe, a little less know town of Grožnjan. But you have to know about Grožnjan. You just have to. And you definitely gonna love it after this article. Super small and super artsy town where artists, painters, musicians and so on, come from all around the world to boost their creativity and to get their inspiration. And now, imagine staying in a town like this. With all this creative energy floating around. Well, the same way and with the same passion I’d say, the residence I stayed in, was built.

Even then, it was a house of great importance for Grožnjan, and as proof, you can still see the recognizable painted red and white tiles that adorn only a few more houses in Grožnjan. Completely reconstructed according to the principles of respect for tradition and historical heritage. During the renovation, the most important elements of the house are original and date from the time when it was built, the front door with a keyhole, staircase, beams, fireplace. The real jewel of the house is its terrace, a green Mediterranean oasis in the middle of stone Grožnjan, a place that will awaken all your senses.

As its website says: „In creating Case Ars Nature, the ambition was to make this place a reference display of the art of living in harmony with tradition and nature in a comfortable and original space for modern lovers of aesthetics, and all those who recognize the beauty of staying at home, telling its story of ancient, forgotten times, which lives again today, nurturing tradition and originality.

Ars Natura is more than a concept, it is a unique heritage, it is more than a destination, it is a private refuge.“

And it definitely is. Since entering the Casa you will see and feel how well that modern aspect goes along with traditional and how it is working so well when it’s done right.

The house consists of a ground floor with a kitchen, dining room and a spacious bathroom. On the first floor is the living room and terrace, on the second bedroom with bathroom, and on the third last floor in the high attic, is the master bedroom. On the ground floor there is also a storage room for bicycles.

What I loved about the Casa is how it’s decorated. I mean you still have the same stairs and doors and fireplace from back when the house was first built. It just shows how incredibly well thought everything was when the house was being renovated.

What I also love and what I consider as my favorite spot in the casa was the terrace. Late Summer/early Autumn nights there with all the Mediterranean plants around, surrounded by the old Istrian houses and rooftops but still kinda secluded and private, was such great experience. I was spending my dinners and breakfast as well as most of my afternoons there. Working or just chilling. So good.

My bedroom was in the attic, and from the rooftop window you could see the Church bell tower, which was such a nice view to experience especially at night.

Breakfast and food are also provided by the casa and the near market that brought us freshly baked croissants in the morning. And also, all the other stuff like salami, bread, and the usual breakfast, snack things. And vino of course. I mean, you cannot stay at Istrian casa and not have a vino in your kitchen. There were a lot of wine to taste. Perfect for evenings in, when the little town goes to sleep, and you are just chilling on the terrace with a glass of your wine under the stars.

There is a lot to be told about the casa, but I will let you discover it by yourself. Or from my pictures. It really is a perfect gem in a cozy little town of Grožnjan in the beautiful Istria. And Istria, apart from being my home region, is a region full of hidden treasures of history, nature, gastronomy, with its excellent cuisine and wines, and of course, its people. Istria offers countless opportunities for sports activities and staying in nature. There is just so much to love here. They don’t call it without a reason, „a little Tuscany”.
