When searching for a place to stay in Lisbon, I went with the usual filters I always put on. Central location, top rated cleanliness, very good breakfast, comfy bed and the very good review score. All of that eventually led me to the Hotel Heritage Avenida Liberdade. Since I travel a lot and most of the times it’s on a short weekend break or business related, the main thing I’m actually looking for in a hotel is that it has a central location.
It’s such a relief when you don’t have to use various versions of transportation all the time to get you from one point to another. You simply exit the hotel and you are already near all the main attractions. This is the game changer especially when you are limited with time and want to see as much as you can. Once I booked a hotel outside the city center and I promised to myself never again. Ok maybe if it has an outdoor pool or something. But talking of the pool, guess what? The Hotel Heritage Avenida Liberdade in Lisbon actually had a pool. Yeah! Indoor pool in the basement in the very heart of Lisbon. How cool is that?! No wonder the first thing I went on, after the check in, was the pool. And I got it all for myself. Wonderful!
But let’s go back to the beginning. The hotel itself is a small boutique hotel of just 42 rooms. Situated on the Avenida Liberdad, it’s 15 minutes walking from the main square. Surounded by parks, small cafes, and shops. Avenida Liberdad is actually the main shopping street in Lisbon. The blue building blends in perfectly with all the facades so you don’t notice at first that it is an actual hotel. Coming closer, the doormen opens the door for you and you’re in.
Nicely decorated lobby and the reception is the first thing you’ll notice. The lobbys is divided in two parts and in the second part the breakfast is served every morning. Also, in the lobby there is a bar and free water and all sorts of teas and coffees you can have at any time of the day for free. What is also for free are the cookies and egg tarts or Pastes de Nata, the delicious Portuguese dessert. Needless to say that I ate a lot of those. Spending an evening in the lobby, drinking tea and eating the egg tarts after a whole day of exploring the city was a very nice experience; very relaxing and just what one needs after the tiresome day. Such a nice atmosphere overall in the hotel, too.
On my arrivial they’ve upgraded me to one of the nicest rooms in the hotel and I have to say it was a real treat. Nicely decorated, wooden floors, big windows looking at the greenery outside, a leather couch, a TV and a beautifuly decorated bathroom with a bath and shower. Couldn’t ask for more.
The bed was very comfortable, the pillows too and the room was clean.
And what I loved the most was the view. It was a very homey feeling. Hearing the birds outside, watching the trees from my bed while actually stayin’ in the city centre really felt like home.
But nothing can really beat the pool. After the whole day of walking around uphill the Lisbon streets, having a pool all for yourself was the best thing ever. It’s not a big pool but was more than enough for a swim and the relaxing after. Amazing.
There was another thing that was amazing and the one I never write about when it comes to the reviews of the hotels I’m staying in, and it’s about the shampoo they provide. You know, I traveled a lot and have been in a lot of hotels and I’m really not interested in shampoos and bath gels in the hotel; they’re usually all nice, I wash my myself and my hair and forget about it. But not this one. This time I took one shampoo home which I never do and actually googled it later to find out why does it smell so good. Hands down to the best shampoo I ever smelled. The best.
I wish I could stay longer in this hotel. The location, the breakfast, free egg tarts through the whole day at the bar, beautiful room and a pool made my stay excellent and whenever I return to Lisbon, I’ll be definitely staying here again.
Thank you Heritage Avenida Liberdade Hotel.
